Grand Bend Speedway Pro Late Models (August 8, 2021)
This past weekend was my second of three scheduled events at Grand Bend Speedway this summer. It was another enjoyable event but was marked by a rain delay: something I remember well from my days of announcing at Delaware Speedway. Surely there is nothing more frustrating to a promoter, after working hard all week to get ready for racing, than having those plans interfered with by poor weather. The drainage work they have been doing at this track paid off: the infield of the track didn’t flood and we were able to go racing once the weather allowed it.
During the rain delay we took the opportunity to interview some of the drivers for the crowd and also the folks watching from home on the live stream.
The show itself went smoothly and I was finally able to make it to the pits to talk to a few drivers prior to the event; something I always like to do before announcing a race.
The final race of the night was the biggest surprise: although it was a small group of just three drivers today, the drivers of the Mini-Truck class at the track competed in a tight battle for nearly their entire race with multiple lead changes and plenty of side-by-side racing.
I look forward to my last scheduled event at Grand Bend this summer, set for Sunday, August 29.
